It was first organized in 1993 as a response to the Sex Garage police raid of 1990, referred to as 'Montreal's Stonewall ». Divers/Cité was taking place each year in the heart of Montreal, since 1993 in the heart of downtown Montreal and in Montreal's Gay Village area usually on the end of July and beginning of August every year. Combining a program of events such as a Community Day, a Literary Pride, a Pride Festival, and of course the Montreal Gay Pride Parade, this pride really turns the city upside down with plenty of rainbow revelry.įierté Montréal was founded in 2007 at the initiative of Montreal’s LGBTQ communities after the city's prior Pride festival, Divers/Cité, repositioned itself as a general arts and music festival. Montreal Gay Pride, or Fierté Montreal, is the city's largest genuflection to the local LGBTQ community, offering 11 full days of fun, entertainment, and gay pride in this lively Canadian city.
